Hi,

We were trying to use Atlassian Crowd as SSO IDP for our custom application but we were not successful as it turns out we cannot use Crowd as a standalone IDP.

We are now exploring the option Crowd + JIRA as SSO IDP for our app, but we are not sure as well if this is possible at all? If not, is there a way to use Crowd together with any application to be used as an SSO IDP for custom app?

Thank you!

Hi @Karl Buena

Crowd's SSO 2.0 allows you to integrate Crowd as a SAML Identity Provider (IdP) for any SAML-compliant applications. This includes enabling Single Sign-On (SSO) for both Atlassian and custom applications. You can find more details about Crowd's SSO 2.0 here:
https://confluence.atlassian.com/crowd/crowd-sso-2-0-967322291.html

However, since you are also interested in user synchronization, I recommend exploring a dedicated Identity Provider (IdP) solution. A dedicated IDP can offer enhanced SSO functionality, user provisioning through protocols like SCIM, and a more seamless experience for your users.

I am from miniOrange an Atlassian Marketplace Vendor. We provide a comprehensive suite of SSO other plugins for Atlassian applications, as well as an Identity and Access Management (IAM) platform available in both cloud and on-premise versions. Our solution supports various SSO protocols, including SAML, OAuth, and OIDC, along with advanced user synchronization options such as just-in-time provisioning and SCIM that can easily satisfy your requirements
You can learn more about our solutions here:

Feel free to reach out to miniOrange Customer Support for a trial or a free setup. We’d be happy to assist you.

Hi @Karl Buena and welcome to the Atlassian Communtiy.

I think you should be able to integrate Crowd with a custom application. Involving Jira just to have an IDP should not be necessary.

What are you looking for exactly? Do you need to sync users to your custom application? This should be possible with Crowd's REST API.

Authentication should even be possible with SAML.

@Charlie Misonne yes our main goal is to use Crowd for:
  1. SSO
  2. Users sync to our custom application

Do you have additional documentation or sample crowd SSO integration to custom app that can help us speed up our development?

Thanks so much for your help!

Hi Karl,

There is the crowd SSO2 link posted by @MASEEDU JESWANTH in the other answer.

I do not have a sample myself, sorry!

Once you start developing: know that there is a dedicated developer community as well.
