Hi Greg,
The easiest (native) way to do this would be to put your tasks in a table with one task per row, and additional columns for whatever you want to sort on. As long as you've kept a header row on the table you can sort the table in view mode by clicking the column headers.
There are task add-ons in the Atlassian Marketplace if you want more task-specific functionality, and also table add-ons if you want to do more with your tables.

Thanks for your answer. I am specifically interested in the Tasklist features (with the check boxes).
The table solution you suggest is prob the easiest but I will investigate the add-ons that you suggest.
