"Admin key" questions / help

Hi Community,

I’m hoping someone can shed some light on this. I’m investigating the Confluence Premium/Enterprise "admin key" feature, and I’m surprised to find that it doesn’t seem to be something you can enable on demand. Instead, it appears that you need to be provided with the URL of a restricted page before you can access it (along with other restricted pages or content).

This feels counterintuitive—(as a site admin) if I want to discover restricted content but don’t know the exact page I need to view, it seems like I can’t use this feature to uncover it.

Am I missing something in the settings, or is this really how the feature is designed to work?

Hi @Tom_Carrott_Adaptavist , let me first date that I am not personally familiar with the feature but was curious about it so I went to the documentation to learn more. This page seems to imply that it is on demand, or at least it seems that way to me based on my definition of on demand. In that page, it shows that you can turn it off once you're done. If that is not what you're looking for, could you explain more completely what your expectations are? Ultimately, you may want to use the Feedback link within the app to communicate to Atlassian product managers.

Thanks, @Jack Brickey I appreciate you getting back to me on this. I've spent some more time investigating, and I'm fairly confident it’s due to how the feature is set

While functional, it doesn't facilitate discovering restricted content as a space admin. A starting point, like the URL of a restricted page, is still needed.

The use case I'm exploring is for an instance admin wanting to identify undiscovered restricted content pages across one or more spaces, and take action as the person with the highest level of control in the organisation. I suspect the lack of this functionality is causing many pages to be "lost in the ether," for lack of a better term. This represents a gap in features, and it's something I’m eager to explore further through my current research.

I’d be really interested to hear if others reading this post also have a need to solve this problem, which seems to be unaddressed by Atlassian, and how significant the issue is for them.
