how to suggest edits in confluence
Hello Ross,
Welcome to Atlassian Community. It's nice to meet you!
If you want to know simply how to let the author know what edits should be made on a page in Confluence, I recommend using Inline Comments. Inline comments allow you to select a portion of text, and make a comment specifically on that. The author can then make the changes, and resolve the comment, which will cause it to be hidden from view.
If this doesn't answer your question, then as @Carla Ann Rowland mentioned, we'll need to know more about what you're trying to do in order to help you out.
Thank you, and take care!
Shannon
Hi Shannon,
Your link doesn't work, but it's explained here:
https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/comment-on-pages-and-blog-posts-139483.html
*Not mentioned in this link is that you must not be in Edit mode when you try this.
Cheers
You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
Thanks for the heads up, Ross! It looks like an extra letter was somehow was added in the URL I pasted, so I have fixed my version too.
As you mentioned, Inline Comments are only possible in view mode. If you're in edit mode, you can use the workaround proposed below, using the Page Properties macro.
The downside here is that your author will need to remove the macro after they've read your notes.
Templates in Confluence allow you to use Placeholder Text, which is also only seen by the editor, but you can't add this macro into an existing page. See Editing a Template for information regarding that.
I hope that helps, but let me know if you have any questions about that.

Hi @ross_richter,
The feature Talk Suggestions from the Talk – Advanced Inline Comments can help with your case.
You just need to select the text you suggest to change, click and enter your suggestion text. The initial content will remain on the page and your suggestion will be displayed on a sidebar.
When you suggest something, the owner of the page gets a notification and can decide whether to accept your ideas or not. When they accept them, changes automatically apply to that piece of text.
You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
But Talk Suggestions does not exist for Confluence Cloud.
(and it costs minimum 2200 USD/year)
