Copy a Space or Create from a Template workaround

Here's how I do to copy a space (or create a new one from a template actually)

  • Create a new Blank space with correct name & KEY.

o (Keys can not be changed , choose wisely!)

  • Go to the template (or space you want to copy) overview page and select Copy for top right … menu
  • Copy to the new Space. Include all Child pages.

o Give a prefix to your pages if you want

  • Once completed, go to the new Space settings → space details and modify the Home page to be the Homepage of the Template you just copied.
  • In Manage pages, go in Reorder and move you new Home page at the top of hierarchy.
  • Delete the Generic Homepage that came with the empty space.

I hope it helps anyone.

Hi @Pavan B K,

It is not possible natively to "copy" a Confluence Space, however there is solutions around this listed on the documentation here.

Hope this helps

Hey Pavan,

Since you're on Cloud, there are fewer options than Server for doing this. Looks like the only add-on that supports doing it is Copy Space for Confluence. Doing it manually in Cloud isn't really do-able since you can't import to a test environment to make sure all the references got updated.

Good luck, hope the add-on gets you where you need to be!

Cheers,
Daniel

Hi Daniel

It is now about a year later and there have been some updates to Cloud. Is this still the best way to copy a space in Confluence?

Thanks,
Jim

Was just trying to find better solution than a paid plugin. This seems like a complete no brainer to have Atlassian put in place.

In newer versions from 6

Copy a Page can be a workaround

@Jim Latimer

as you asked for an alternative. You might want to take a look at the 'Clone a Space' app for Confluence cloud that we've built. It's free and allows to reuse configuration as space template.
