extremely long rendering time for powerpoint using the "office powerpoint macro".

Mark Bockstael November 13, 2013

We're facing an extremely long rendering time when trying to show a ppt of about 50 slides (550kb filesize) using the "office powerpoint macro".
Is there a limit to how many slides a ppt/pptx can have?
(Win7, IE9, Confluence 5.1.2)

Hi Mark,

There is not a limit, however, there are known isues with the rendering of certain fonts and image effects. The powerpoint rendering relies on a few different components so ensure that your office connector add-on is up to date and try updating the jdk you're running against. You may have luck with increasing the memory allocated to Confluence as well:

I've experienced some issues with customers using Confluence 5.1.2 and the office connector rendering ppts. Their issues were resolved by upgrading to Confluence 5.3.1 which has the latest version of the office connector. I would suggest testing an upgrade in a staged environment and see if your ppts have better success when rendering.

Hi Ryan,

thanks for looking into the issue!

it turns out that on one of the slides of the ppt, there is a type of arrow-image that seems to cause the problem. After changing these, rendering is a lot better.

Upgrading Confluence is, although very tempting (:-)) not an immediate option in our company setup.
