editing children display contents

Liz Bruss April 9, 2020

I would like to edit the contents to this page.  When I click "edit", I got this.

children display.png

When I right click "Children Display" to edit, it shows this.

children display2.pngI can see the contents of the display.  It has a "Save" button, but can't edit the contents.  How can I add more contents to this "Preview"?

Thanks.

Hi @Liz Bruss

When you mention add more contents - what contents are you referring to?

This macro shows all the child pages of this parent page - and in your case, all the descendants of those also to a depth of 2.

You can only add content based on the left-hand settings - so for example, if you wanted all descendants to show, you could remove the "2" in that box.

When I said that I want to add more content, I meant to add another topic such as "How to design a wiki page" that will show in the "Preview" window.  However, I don't know a place to add, since the "Preview" window only has a save button, and no editing button.  You could say that you can add more contents on the "Useful Tips and BKMs" page.  If I do that, it not included in the "Children Display", so it does not show in the "Preview" page. Is it clear what I am asking?  I might be on the wrong direction how to do the editing.  I just want to add more content to the page that will be included in the "Preview" window. Thanks.

Hi @Liz Bruss

The macro is displaying the child pages of your parent page (whichever page this macro is on).

So if you wanted to create another linked page under "Local File Backup" which would display on this page you would need to:

  1. Exit out of this page's edit screen
  2. Select to view the page "Local File Backup"
  3. Create a new page

The new page will then appear as a bullet point below the "Local File Backup" section on this macro.

Alternatively if you wanted a new section title like "Local File Backup" it would need to be a child of the parent page itself.

I know it is something simple.  Thank you.  I should have known better.
