Will we be able to migrate to cloud after end of support?

I am having trouble finding a clear answer on this.

When support for confluence/jira server ends in Feburary, will we still be able to migrate to cloud and get some sort of support in doing that migration if needed?

I imagine we won't be able to get a 60 day, let along 12 month trial of a cloud product at that point, but are we still able to use the migration tool?

You will still be able to migrate to cloud after the end of support data for Server.

If you already have the Cloud Migration Assistant app installed on the server you should be able to execute that app to migrate your data. You may want to makes sure that you have the latest version of that app installed shortly before the end of support date.

I have not found a clear statement about the level of support you can get to complete your migration at that time. I'll keep looking.

You could work with a Solution Partner to ensure you have support during the migration process. Disclosure: I work for an Altassian Solution Partner in North America.

I checked in with the Atlassian team and got this information back:

"Datacenter to Cloud migration support will be available. Datacenter itself is not impacted by the EOL of server.

"Server to Cloud migration support may be unavailable to them if they choose to migrate post Feb 2024. Depending on when/where they are in the process if it's after the EOL date."

If you don't make any effort to start the migration planning until after the EOL date, then it sounds you would not have direct support from Atlassian for upgrading directly from Server to Cloud. You would need to get a trial license for DC and convert your Server to DC to be in a supported state. However is should be noted that not all apps that work on Server are supported or work on DC. Before applying a DC license to your server you should review your apps.

While still a wee bit unclear from their support. It's clearly unclear whether there will be any support for migration after EOL. I imagine the tool will start working only for datacenter and the one that works for server will stop working at some point too.

So we'll just have to fast track a few decisions.

If you wait until after the EOL date to do anything about assessing and planning for the migration:

1. Your server will continue to be usable, but you won't be able to get support for problems you encounter.

2. The JCMA application that you have installed (as well as all other apps) will continue to operate, but you won't be able to get support for them nor upgrade them to any version released after the EOL date.

If you choose at that time to get a Data Center trial or paid license, that reopens the door for support.

If you start the planning process for your migration before EOL, depending on how far along you've gotten then you may still have some level of support for the migration. You would need to initiate contact with Atlassian Support as soon as you start that process to get clarity on how much support they can provide.

Or, you can engage with a Solution Partner for your migration, which may enable you to get Atlassian Support for your migration through the Partner.
