Will confluence 8.5 work with SQL 2022 and just not be supported if an issue comes up? Or does it literally not work with SQL 2022 and will cause errors and crash out if used? 

I apologize if this is a goofy question, just have a hard time seeing why SQL 2022 will work for Jira 9.12 but not confluence 8.5.

Based on the supported platform for Confluence v8.5, MSSQL 2022 is NOT supported and only supported from Confluence v8.7 and above.
