Why is my Confluence Configuration stalled before entering a license key?

Nancy Debnam April 1, 2021

I am trying to install the latest version of Confluence (7.11.2) on my Windows 2016 server and it is stalled at the point where I should be able to enter a license key.  No text box is visible for entry.  The page is virtually blank.

Any thoughts?

Thank you,

Nancy

I was able to set it up myself from the actual server.  Initially, I was trying to set it up from a desktop.  Not sure why that would have mattered, but problem has been resolved.  Thank you all for suggestions.

I presume you mean that http://myserver.name:8090/ didn't work, but from myserver.name you could use http://localhost:8090/

That's really unfortunate, as I'm running a headless server and so can't use localhost without some very ugly hoops.

It doesn't seem that the selected item from the previous page is not defined, but why would that be?  Which other logs should I look at?

Nancy Debnam April 1, 2021

In looking at access logs, it seems there is a 403 error

Which I can't seem to track down.  Any thoughts on why this would occur?

Hi Nancy,

You did receive a "Confluence is ready to serve" message, and that typically means that setup is complete and you should be able to access Confluence.Try restarting the service while tailing logs to see what occurs.

You may be receiving this error because you entered unfriendly data or Confluence can't do what it needs to with the data. Check permissions on the install directory, start / stop confluence with the service (so that it is running with the correct user), and verify your database collation / setup is Atlassian's recommended configuration.

Also, can you indicate what was entered on the 'previous screen?" Please obfuscate private data, but keep any special characters or symbols. Cheers!

Nancy Debnam April 2, 2021

The only thing on the previous screen was two buttons.  One that basically said I'll set it up myself, and the other that said basically, set it up for me.  I chose, I'll set it up myself.

Hi Nancy,

Charlie is correct with his recommendation. I would also recommend that you compare your environment with the supported platforms documentation. Cheers!

Hi Nancy,

Have you checked the log files of Confluence? Something could have gone wrong during the installation process.
