Why can't user add a child page in their own personal space in Confluence?

SeanM February 14, 2014

The "table of contents" list of pages to the left of her space doesn't look like those of other users. Her's doesn't have a "Create child page" link.

A similar differnence in "table of contents" occurs for site spaces as well. Some have the link, some do not. Is there some setting somewhere that accounts for the difference?

Hi Sean,

I belive, you are using Documentation Theme for this HEAT Space while for the EKB you are using Global Look and Feel (The default)Theme.

Please try the following steps on Heat Space:

1. Click Space Admin

2. Then from the Left Navigation Column click Themes under Look and feel.

3. Now tick the Global Look and Feel and press Confirm

4. Now click Configure sidebar from the left navigation menu or from the Space Tools (Lower Left Corner)

5. Then Select Child pages and press Done.

Hope this will help!!!! Please let me know how it goes.

Thanks

Tahsin

Thank you, Tahsin. That was it exactly!

I looked further and found the "Space Tools". Still haven't found which (if any) setting is controlling the basic appearance of the pages.

But there is a basic difference. All of our spaces HAVE a "Space tools" control in the lower left corner, and clicking it brings up a nice Space Tools interface. BUt one space, "HEAT", does NOT have a "Space Tools" control. When I enter the appropriate URL directly I do get controls, but with a very different interface, and not all the same controls.

Not the two pictures below. Everything outside the green rectangle is different. What setting is different for the HEAT space that makes it display differently than all the other spaces we have?

HAS Space Tools control and interface:

Thank you for the reply. Can you clarify exactly what you mean by "checking the space admin on the page"? Where do I do that?

I have checked the restrictions on a these pages, and there are none. As far as I can see from checking restrictions and page information (is there something else I shuold be looking at?) there is nothing that makes one page different from another. Clearly they are, so there must be some setting or property somewhere that makes teh difference. What is it and where do I go to adjust it?

You also suggest that the add permission may be missing for a "particular user". This difference in what is shown on a page isn't limited to a particular user. I haven't run through EVERY user we have, but I've checked with several and every singleone I've checked with see a particular page the same way. A particular page either has a sidebar with shortcuts and a child page heirarchy like my first picture above for EVERYONE, or it has a sidebar with no shorcuts and no "Create Child Page" link like my second picture above.
