Which formats exactly can I import?

M.Evans October 20, 2015

Hi!

Importing Content into Confluence https://confluence.atlassian.com/conf57/importing-content-into-confluence-701434924.html does not provide detailed information on the formats I can import with the

Space Tools > Content Tools > Import

functionality. There it does only say "You can use this action to import text files". But which formats exactly can I use? Is XML or HTML possible?

Thank you in advance
and best regards,

 Mel

Hi there,

Thank you. i think it is a pity that there is no detailed description for imports available. I believe, we will have to go with copy and past.

Well, if you tell us what format you have, we might be able to help you with a quicker route. There's some details on HTML, Word and Text, and loads on XML, but a lot of what you can do depends on what it is.

The Space tools import is mostly (only?) used for importing previously exported Confluence spaces. If you simply want to create a new page from imported data, you can use ••• -> Import Word Document, or simply open your text or whatever doc, select all, copy, create a new page, title it, hit the Return key and paste.

It does cover xml and html in that doc - both are "sort of" answers - xml must be formatted in a way Confluence can read (which pretty much means it has to be Confluence exported xml) and the section "importing web content" talks about html.

I think you need to look at the last section though, for "importing other content" and then ask us for a bit more help if that's not enough - basically, what exactly are you planning to import?
