Hi,

I'm trying to figure out how to use variables and template text in my page template. The documentation I've found is here:

https://confluence.atlassian.com/confcloud/blueprints-and-user-created-templates-724764985.html

This documentation has features and menus which do not appear or work in the cloud version I am using when I am editing a template.

There is NO file menu, NO template menu, and typing a $ does nothing. But I do see a [+] menu with an item called "New variable".

What am I missing? Am I looking at the wrong documentation? Is there a mis-match between the documentation and the cloud deployed functionality?

Why is this so difficult for senior technical person to figure out on a platform built for  engineers?

Thanks.

Sheila.

Hi @Sheila Hatfield

The document you have highlighted has all the necessary help needed in it, to create a template from scratch or to use an existing one. Have you been able to create a template?

To create a new template do the following:

  1. Go to a page where one wants to create a page from.
  2. Click the + button on the left sidebar. This opens a Create screen (containing existing templates).
  3. At the bottom of the screen you'll see "Add or customise templates for the selected space". Click into it.
  4. This opens Space Settings and the tab Templates is selected and you'll see all the existing templates from a basic template to all the templates mentioned in that document link.
  5. Click on Create a new template, which opens a blank page. If you want to add New Variables you can use <> or select it from the + pull down menu <> New variables
  6. Fill your template with variables or fields that you want to see every time your template is selected and once you are done Save.
  7. Give it a name and update the Description on the Templates tab.
  8. Here you can also promote your template, meaning push it up the ranking so that it appears on the front screen of the Create screen that first opens when a user clicks the + button on the left sidebar. (as in step 2 above).
