When putting content inside an excerpt macro it publishes much smaller

I am trying to use the Excerpt Macro to share diagrams on multiple pages. The sharing part is fine. However, the macro itself it shirking my diagram. When I edit the page I make the image inside the excerpt large so it is easy to digest. However, when I publish the page it scales it down. If I put the image outside of the Excerpt Marco then it publishes as I would expect.

What can I do? As this functionality is not going to cut it for what I am trying to do.

This is continuing to happen so why was the ticket marked as completed?

https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFCLOUD-70540

Ticket says --- Issue is fixed and no longer reproducible

I had this same issue, but I figured out the cause. My image was too large to be placed at 100%. When I scaled the image down, I no longer had the problem of it being reduced in size by too much.

Of course, it would be better if Confluence would fix that internally, but at least it helps to know what triggers the behavior and how to avoid it. I hope that helps.

Hello @Simon Baynes !

As I understand, image size is incorrectly rendered when you insert the image inside an Excerpt Macro.

I was able to replicate this behavior when I set the page to use the Full-Width mode. You can check more about the full-width options here:

With these results at hand, I raised this bug report:

Can you confirm that the behavior I described within the report matches what you are experiencing as well?

If that is the case, the best course of action would be to vote and watch for the report. Voting helps to increase report visibility.

Further, would you like to expand on what is the ultimate objective of your usage of the Excerpt Macro? Maybe we can come up with something to replace the Excerpt as the main tool for it!

Let us hear from you!

Hi,

That ticket was marked fixed and closed, but it is definitely still happening. Here's a screenshot of a published full width page and the editor side by side. The page consists only of an Excerpt with an image, followed by an Excerpt Include of that same Excerpt underneath it.

I've included alt text under the image so that you can compare the text side to the image size. You can see that the image in the Excerpt is smaller than the image in the Excerpt Include.

Additionally (this is probably a separate issue), if the image in the Excerpt is resized at all (using the handles on the side in the editor), then the Excerpt Include panel on the editor gets shrunk down to almost nothing (in an animated way, ie., it starts large, and then shrinks down). In some cases, I've seen that animation continue in a loop, so the entire page in the editor gets constantly shifted.

I am struggling with this exact same issue. I want to place my full-width header image in an excerpt include so if I change the image later, I can update the entire site by changing only the source instead of swapping a new header image on every page.

But it won't display full width. So frustrating!
