What is the recommended open file limit for Confluence?

dchisholm April 17, 2012

The default limit of 1024 was too low during startup of Confluence. If the site was accessed immediately after restart, Confluence would report that it could not find resources that were clearly there. After waiting a few minutes, the problem cleated. I suspect this was because some background jobs (maybe indexing?) finished and freed file handles. When I run lsof on the Confluence process id, it usually has about 900 files open.

After doubling the open file limit to 2048, the problem cleared. Is this typical or does it indicate a problem with my installation?

Using Confluence 4.2 on CentOS 5.8

I have seen it before and I would say 2048 is reasonably good. Fisheye needs more but Confluence should work fine with 2048 unless there are some plugins messing it up!

Thanks. Good to get some confirmation on this since I'm rather new to Confluence.
