What is the pricing for having a mix of Jira users and non-Jira users that only use Confluence?

Product Manager July 2, 2018

We are currently only using Jira for our software team, but we would like to add every staff member onto Confluence as we find the pages model helpful to maintain our company knowledge base.

How do we do this, and what is the pricing model like?

Hello,

Confluence license is determined by a number of users that have "can use" permission. This is a minimal permissions level that allows user to log-in into confluence.

The source of users does not matter, be it Jira, Crowd or LDAP, each user with "can use" permission will count towards confluence license the same way.

After adding Jira to Confluence user directory, you can specify a designated Jira user group that will be used for Confluence access, then add that group to global and space permissions and move only those Jira users that need access to Confluence. Same can be achieved on Jira side by manipulating confluence-users group membership. This will help control who can use Confluence and avoid getting bigger license than necessary. If you want all Jira users to have access to Confluence then above step is unnecessary.

You can find details on licensing model here: Confluence Licensing and Purchasing
