What is the difference between a Group vs a Team in Confluence?

I created a team in Confluence but when it come to Space Security I can only add groups.  Where do you created the groups in Confluence?  I know how to create Teams in Confluence but those don't show up in the drop down for the Space Security and applying the security to Teams only Groups.

To add groups in Confluence, go to the Space Settings from the sidebar, select General from the Space permissions card, and then select an Edit Permissions button under Groups. From there, you can create a new group or search for an existing group to add to the space. Teams in Confluence cannot be added directly as they are not recognized as a group by the system. You will need to create a group and add your team members to it for them to have the same access to the space.

I don't have the ability to add a group which you mention in your response which looks to be possible but I don't have the capability.  I can only search for a group and add from the list that exists.  I can only search existing groups and from the existing one I can add only those which it finds.
