Visiting a domain with an untrusted certificate

Bowie Poopathy December 4, 2019

Hello,

I tried to install certificate for confluence as mentioned here :

https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/running-confluence-over-ssl-or-https-161203.html?_ga=2.85479833.1213196860.1575507869-356790573.1575261355

But still have the same issue that the site is untrusted and the certificate is not trusted.

So how to solve this problem I need to use https for safety of my data.

Hi Hassan,

Can you check the domain on the certificate name? In the browser location bar, click on the padlock icon, then drill down (not sure which browser you are using) then try to find the domain name. It's possible there's a typo in the certificate name, or you've used a self-signed certificate.

That said, you're better off using a reverse proxy such as nginx to manage https. See this article https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/running-confluence-behind-nginx-with-ssl-858772080.html

Some further questions:

  • Is Confluence internet facing, that is, can you type the URL into any browser (not necessarily one on the same network as Confluence)?
  • Is the operating system for Confluence Linux based?

If both of the above are true, consider using Let's Encrypt in combination with nginx above to securely serve Confluence over https.
