Updating template instances

Preeti G. Karkera July 30, 2019

How to create a template that can be reapplied to instances of the template used across spaces. For example, we create a template and our users used the template in their own spaces, then we modify that template. How can we ensure that the new template's change would apply to my users template instance?

There are two layers of templates in Confluence - space templates and global templates.

Space templates are local to the space they are in, and are independent of other templates.  But global templates can be used in any space and because they are single shared things, you change them and every space uses the new version from the second you commit the change.

Thank you for your quick response.

Would this update existing docs that used the template?

No, a template is a template, literally.  When you use a template, you get what it is at that point in time.

Hi @Preeti G. Karkera

Maybe our Page Tree Creator could be a solution for your requirement.

With the Page Tree Creator you can create categories of templates. You can now assign these categories to the individual spaces. This means that you don't have to copy individual templates into the individual spaces and don't have to do the update afterwards.

You can find the Page Tree Creator on the Marketplace.
