👋 Hi Community!

Just upgraded a Confluence Data Center instance to 8.5. Unicode emoji on existing pages are now rendering as Unicode code.

  • Instead of seeing emoji like 🙂 , we see five-digit code sequences where the emoji should be, for example: 45592
  • I can add emoji (Unicode emoji) onto pages without issue.

Any advice?

Hi Dave, I found this bug on Atlassian's site: CONFSERVER-18509 when it is fixed, Confluence is supposed to support Emoji characters.  See CONFSERVER-34420.

Sounds like an update issue maybe?

Hope that helps.  You could always ask support (support.atlassian.com/contact).

That's what others have suggested to me (offline).

I ended up contacting Atlassian Support, and we all couldn't figure out what the root cause was. Luckily it was just one page, and when we applied another instance to 8.5, we didn't see this issue.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
