Samir Farhat November 7, 2018

Hi,

We recently deployed a Confluence server.

We use SendGrid for email sending.

I have followed the official sendgird documentation and i succeeded sending an email through Telnet.

But in confuence, i always have the Bad username/password when testing sending an email.

The following is my configuration

The following message is received :

An error has occurred with sending the test email:
com.atlassian.mail.MailException: javax.mail.AuthenticationFailedException: 535 Authentication failed: Bad username / password

at com.atlassian.confluence.jmx.JmxSMTPMailServer.doSendWithMessageIdSupport(JmxSMTPMailServer.java:120)
at

Any help please ?

This is really ridiculous, but the documentation (sendgrid) does not tell you that encoding the user name and secret is only for TELNET

In a normal configuration, use

  • user name : apikey
  • password: The plain API Key

That will work!
