Unable to Unrestricted Confluence Space Despite Admin Access

Selvam A July 31, 2024

I have admin access with full permissions, but I am unable to unrestricted the Confluence space. When I click the lock pad symbol, it says, "You don't have permission to view this page. Hit the request access button and we'll find someone who can give you access."

What could be the issue? Did I miss something? Please help me out.

@Selvam A Can you determine who is the owner of the page (select All Content in the sidebar)?

You can then contact that person to request access to the page. They may explain to you why they have restricted access to it. For example, it may contain content that should only be visible to specific people for regulatory or other such reasons.

What is the workaround if that person has left or is no longer part of the company? @Barbara Szczesniak

@Selvam A A Space Admin or Site Admin should be able to change the owner of the page (see https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Confluence-articles/New-Assign-and-transfer-page-ownership/ba-p/2396313).

Also, the Space Admin can also change the restrictions on the page. On the page that @Shawn Doyle - ReleaseTEAM linked to, it says:

How restricted are restrictions?

If your content has view restrictions, it won't display for anyone who doesn't have permission to view it, neither in the content tree, nor any macros. Unless someone else has specifically been given a link to your content, they won't know it exists.

Exceptions:

  • If someone has shared a link to a restricted page, or provided a link to it on another page that can be viewed, the link will have the title of the page as part of the URL. However, they won't be able to tell anything else about the page, including who created it, who has permissions, or when it was updated.

  • Space admins can view and change the restrictions on any content within their space.

  • Site admins can view and change the restrictions on any content within their site.

  • Organization admins and authorized Guard Detect users can see page titles in audit logs and security alerts.

Restrictions and Permissions are different in Confluence.  You can have Space or Org Admin and still be restricted from seeing spaces or pages.

To learn more about restrictions read this:

Scroll down to the troubleshooting part.

Thank you @Shawn Doyle - ReleaseTEAM, I do not have a premium plan, and Admin key and Inspect permissions features are only available on Confluence's premium plan. Is there any workaround to unlock a restricted page?
