Tagging the same person more than once in a document does not send notifications?

Colleen Cottone June 18, 2021

I have found (I believe) that tagging someone in a document who is already tagged does not create a second email notification. Is this true?

For example, A document was created with team members A, B and C tagged. A few days later, updates were made to the document and the owner tagged team members A and B with questions. A and B were not notified of the new tags and they are not watchers so they did not see an update. Is this because they were previously tagged on the document?

Hi @Colleen Cottone ,

Yes that is the behavior.  The initial @ mention sends the alert, and following ones do not (because they were already mentioned).  However, additional @ mentions using Inline Comments or Tasks *will* send out an alert.

Here's more info if interested: https://support.atlassian.com/confluence-cloud/docs/mention-a-person-or-team/

> The people you mention only receive a notification the first time you mention them on a page, but not for subsequent mentions.

Does that help?

Thank you,
Bridget
