Table Transformer conditional formatting

Chad Waldron January 20, 2025

Confluence Version Number: 7.2.1 (Server)
Build: 8401

What I'm after:
A simple table with various columns to input our test results from execution into.

  1. When entered a specific value such as 'Bug' it will highlight the entire row red, and 'Test Case' blue, etc. etc..
  2. A drop down to have set set values, such as 'Bug' etc. (I understand this is not possible without an add-on based on my research, I'm fine without it).

What I've tried:

  1. Excel Table Spreadsheet macro
I've set everything I need in this macro, but it doesn't seem to update across to different users correctly - and I can't afford to lose any data. It seems flakey and it just doesn't seem to work correctly with cross-users.
  2. We have an older version of Confluence on our server so installing add-ons is not a solution for us.

So this brings me to the Table Transformer macro.
However, I have zero SQL skills and I've read that FORMATWIKI can do simple conditional formatting but unsure how this works.

Basically, I need help writing an SQL for a table with the following columns (in order):

  • Failed Reason
  • Build #
  • Test Execution Link
  • Executed by
  • Reviewer
  • Comments
  • Bugs/Enhancements
  • TC Reviewed & Updated?

And then when these values are entered into the 'Failed Reason' column:

  1. Bug: the row is changed to red
  2. Test Case Error: the row is changed to blue
  3. Both: the row is changed to red
  4. Passed: the row is changed to green

If anybody can help build this It would be much appreciated!

Hi @Chad Waldron ,

As you've mentioned the Table Spreadsheet and Table Transformer macros, we suppose that you have our Table Filter, Charts & Spreadsheets for Confluence app.

If you have any trouble with the Table Spreadsheet macro regarding its behavior, please refer to our support for further investigation. And check the version of the app - the current one is 12.3.1, if yours is an older one, please update.

What concerns the conditional formatting via the Table Transformer macro, you may refer to the example from our documentation and search for similar questions here - there are plenty of them:

As you can see, the structure is the same, we change just column names, values and colors. If you are still stuck, you may refer to our support portal and share your page storage, we'll recreate your page and help you with the query.

As mentioned in my previous post - I don't have any add-ons.

However, I've copied another suggestion from this forum and configured the table how I wanted it.

Would love a drop down though.. oh well, somethings are just not meant to be :)

"As mentioned in my previous post - I don't have any add-ons." - then you don't have the Table Spreadsheet and Table Transformer macros?

But you've mentioned them in the original question - we are confused now. :)

So, if you do have the Table Spreadsheet and Table Transformer macros, it means that you have the Table Filter, Charts & Spreadsheets for Confluence app. These macros are not native, they come with the app.

If you don't have any apps, then you can't see these macros in the macro list.

Oops this is my bad, I thought these macros were native :).

Is there anything I can do about adding a drop down with the above mentioned add-ons?

The Table Spreadsheet macro allows you to add a dropdown list like you do it in Excel: right-click in the cell and choose the Data verification option.

What concerns native Confluence tables, you may check the Handy Macros app (it is another app from our company related to formatting). The Handy Status macro will do the trick with a dropdown list.

And coming back to the Table Filter, Charts & Spreadsheets for Confluence app, besides the Table Spreadsheet and Table Transformer macros, it provides other useful macros as well - here is the list for you to check. Maybe you were not aware that these macros are also present in your Confluence instance, and their capabilities will be also handy for your cases.

And if you have any questions regarding these macros, please welcome to our support portal.
