Synchronize Data form Database into User Profiles

Is there a possibility to extract Data from a Database and insert it as Custom User Field in the User Management?

A plugin like Seibert Medias User Profile Plugin can sync data from LDAP and insert it as new fields in the User Management in Confluence. They also support XML import or extra LDAP directories but no Database as Data Source.

Is there any way to achieve this via a plugin or natively?
