I'm looking for a way to step through changes between versions.
Ideally the UX would allow me to:
- see PREV change
- see NEXT change
- display change number and total changes [ 3 / 24 ]

If you go to the page history, then select a particular version to view, the header box has previous, next, and the current change number in it. Going back to the version history, you can select versions and run a direct compare on them.
the described functionality steps between versions, not changes. One version can have multiple changes.
'run a direct compare' colors the changes, but doesn't allow stepping through them. Users need to search for the changes manually.
