Space Export / Import Issues

Chris Cilino

I'm testing exporting a space from one confluence cloud to another. After import I'm seeing some strange behavior.

  1. Labels don't seem to be getting recognized. Labels appear at the bottom of pages when I select the label the summary page says there are no pages with that label. I have to re-add the label (and the label appears in the drop down of available label names!). Once readded, the label summary page reflects the label.
  2. multiexcerpts seems to be broken unless I edit / publish the source page.
  3. When i attempt to use the REST api to "refresh pages" I get the following error:"{"statusCode":501,"message":"com.atlassian.confluence.internal.synchrony.ExternalChangesException: Trying to access unreconciled content <page number>. Retry in a few moments"}". I've found several posts on this problem all leading to https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFSERVER-59196. As a work around it says "7.0.2 - Disabling/enabling collaborative editing clears the 'sync-rev-source' values and allows the calls to work. This method does not work for 7.1.0.". But there is no such option in my cloud settings (see image below)2020-07-25_18h02_43.png
  4. When I attempt to see my version of confluence cloud it says:

License Information for Confluence Cloud
Confluence 1000.0.0-4ee0a3128239
Copyright © 2003 - 2017 Atlassian Corporation Pty Ltd.

1000? Huh?

Something appears to be very messed up. I saw in the past few days some major things got broken like an inability to edit pages or something. Maybe this is related?

Hello Chris,

Thank you for reporting this to us! The bug ticket you found, CONFSERVER-59196, appears to have a similar error, but isn't directly related. It's related to a Confluence Server upgrade, which wouldn't apply to your Cloud Confluence site. Also, Confluence Server is versioned differently, so this explains why your version is 1000.0.0, which is the Cloud version.

I think that we will need to have a look at your Cloud site. It may need a cache refresh, or there might be an other issue as a result of the import. I'll raise a request for that, but I just have a few questions first:

  1. Can you tell me, does this happen with all spaces, or only the ones you've imported?
  2. Was the space export taken from the other Confluence Cloud site recently?
  3. Is that other Cloud site still active at this time?

Thank you for your help!

Shannon

Hi Shannon,

Thanks for such a prompt reply. Let me address each of your numbered questions.

  1. This seems to only happen with imported spaces.
  2. Yes. I'm testing exporting a space from my "production" Confluence cloud to a mock customer Conflunce cloud. I persoanlly own the production and mock customer cloud. So the duration from export to import is approximatley 1 minute. My workflow is to
    1. Use Copy Page Tree to create a new space in my production Confluence Cloud. This allows me to change the space name to my cutomer's required space name. (Using Copy Page tree is a work around to being unable to change a space name once the space is created).
    2. Export to XML 2020-07-27_09h33_13.png
    3. I select "Full export"
    4. I take the generated file and use the Import function in my mock customer space.
  3. Yes, both my "production" confluence cloud and the mock confluence cloud are active.

Hi Chris,

Thank you for providing all of those details! So to be clear, problem only happens if you were to import a space which you create using the Copy Page Tree add-on?

I assume if you were to manually copy/rename the space using the 2nd procedure from How to Copy or Rename a Space, the same issue wouldn't occur?

We've been having some issues lately where customers aren't able to load certain pages/spaces in Confluence, and the trend was that they were created using an add-on much like Copy Page Tree. I suspect the issue could be related, and I'm currently looking for more information on that.

Take care,

Shannon

Hi Shannon,

I just tried the workflow I mentioned WITHOUT using copy page tree. Specifically, the workflow I used was

  1. Export uncopied space to xml in the production confluence cloud.
  2. Import to mock customer confluence cloud.

Result

  1. Out of the 103 pages, about half produce the  {"statusCode":501,"message":"com.atlassian.confluence.internal.synchrony.ExternalChangesException: Trying to access unreconciled content <page number>. Retry in a few moments"}" error when I read the page using the REST API and write the page back. This is a similar result when using the Copy Page Tree addon.
  2. The label issue is resolved. Page Report Property macros work and label page summaries correctly report back all pages with a given label.
  3. The multi excerpt issue is NOT resolved
    1. The page with the Multiexcerpt include reports that there is no page with the multiexcerpt source.
    2. I go to the source page that clearly has the multiexcerpt source
      1. Go to edit mode
      2. Make no changes
      3. Publish
    3. The page with the MultExcerpt include now connects to the multiexcerpt.

Something interesting

When I follow the old workflow (use copy page tree, export, import) now the lables are ALSO working. I'm guessing ya'll pushed out some sort of fix last night. I'm going to start reporting the version of Cloud I'm using per post. Today I'm using:

1000.0.0-5367236b1f95

So the issues are the multiexcert include and the REST error.

Hi @Shannon S

Any news on this?

Hi Chris,

Thank you for your patience! I wasn't able to find a specific issue that might cause this. It seems to be a rare problem, as I was able to only find a pair of examples recently, which resolved on their own. I also noticed this same error would crop up for a few different bugs from the past. That points to a broader cause, which may be a bit more specific to your site.

I'm adding your case information in an internal ticket now. Please check your email in a little while for your ticket number. If you can approve access to your site when you receive that, it will help us to get a head start in investigating the problem on your site.

Thanks again, and take care.
