Removing Atlassian Backup stored local on server, What would impact be? What would happend?

it rmv February 8, 2023

Hi, our Jira and Confluence server (On same server) disk is almost full.

What impact would it have to remove everything before 6 months back in the default confluence backup folder: c:\Program Files\Atlassian\JIRA\logs

(There it is files with name access_log.2020-XX-XX and 1 for each day until today.)

Can i delete these without impacting the current Confluence in the day-to-day work? What do these files do and are older ones required?

We do not have a seperate jira/confluence backup setup, but we do have a default server backup that can revert to date that runs each day.

Best regards, Johan Oskarsson

All that happens is you won't be able to restore back to the ones you delete if there is a problem.  I usually set up logrotate to clean out all but the last 10 or 20, or anything over a certain age.

You don't need to worry about stopping Confluence or performance when you do the cleaning either, it has no effect on the service.

Hi @it rmv you can remove these old backups without anything being impacted.  These files are the server backups set in the configuration of Confluence and can be removed if you no longer require them.  For that matter you can setup a routine to clean these after 30 days or 10 days or X days, you can set your own retention policy and remove these on schedule.
