Question regarding possible issues

Gabrielle Ocumen August 13, 2017

Hi,

Good day!

We have some questions regarding our site. Please see below.

1. What are the things that we should consider while we are updating our site? This is for us to have a better understanding in terms of technical aspects. (Ex. database, storage, server)
2. In terms of the storage, we have already added 10gb for two times which we are not sure the root cause of it. Can you tell us about this matter?
3. May we know on how can we restrict the usage of session per account? We tried to login it into different browser or PC at the same time. However, both were successfully logged in. Is there a way that we can block the other session if there's a session currently logged in for that user?

We really appreaciate your input on this. Thank you!

Hello Gabrielle,

  1. Before updating your site, you will want to consider a few things, including which upgrader you're using, if your add-ons are compatible with the new version, and many more. We go over this in depth at Upgrading Confluence so please take some time to review that article.
  2. In regards to your storage, what problem were you having? You mentioned that you've added 10 GB twice but you are looking into a root cause of some issue. Can you please elaborate what your issue is?
  3. Currently it is not possible to restrict usage of a session per account. Ideally each account you have created is for a single person, so there wouldn't be many cases where they're logging in using the same account in multiple places. We have created a feature request, however, to restrict the number of sessions per user, and you can follow this at CONFSERVER-45466. This has also been discussed on a previous Community post and so there are a lot of really great ideas there that you can look over and see if any would work for your system.

Thank you and let us know if you have any questions about the above!

Kind Regards,
Shannon

Hi Shannon,

Thanks for your reply.

1. Thank you for this info, it helps. However, I'm looking for another answer in terms of updating, not upgrading our site. Like adding pages, etc. What are the things we need to consider?

2. The reason why we added 10GB twice to our storage was because our technical team said that we already exceeded the size of our storage. May we know if this issue occurs when we are updating our site? Does it mean that each pages has its own size?

3. I've been also looking out regarding this matter. May we know when will be this implemented?

Thank you!

Gabrielle,

  1. In order to better answer that question, what problems are you having when adding pages? This is a common action that many people take every day in Confluence so usually there should be no issues and nothing you would need to consider. So if you can tell me what problem you're having I can tell you what might cause that.
  2. Yes, pages have their own sizes. It includes any content and attachments you may have added. Your server admin will be able to take a look at your files and see where the space is being taken up, and they can check your database as well if this is stored on the same server.
  3. The feature request has not yet been accepted for implementation, so we do not have plans in the near future to add this. When you watch the ticket, you will be updated of any changes including if it is accepted and any progress they're making there.

Kind Regards,
Shannon
