I'm trying to improve my organization's project portfolio status reporting strategy, and determining which Atlassian tool/format would work best for our needs. Three requirements I'm considering:
- Ability to pull relevant metadata from epics
- Ability to display % of work complete based on epic story points
- Ability for project managers to layer in health status or other pertinent notes as text
Each of the tools I'm considering has at least one major drawback:
- Confluence page w/ embedded Jira filter: no ability to type in notes side-by-side with Jira data without a paid plug-in; notes would have to be separately entered; also no out-of-the-box progress indicator
- Confluence page w/ embedded Database: database doesn't automatically update as the Jira query (list of epics) updates; also no out-of-the-box progress indicator
- Jira roadmap/plan: no ability to type in notes side-by-side with epics; possibly not as easily consumable of a visual for leadership in this use case (vs a simpler table)
- Jira dashboard: limited in its ability to filter/manipulate the data without a paid plug-in; no ability to type in notes side-by-side with epics
One possible approach is to include all possible "health"/"notes" as custom fields in the epics and then pull them into other views. But aside from this, are there other tools/processes within the Atlassian suite that folks here use to overcome the above? Any shared perspectives welcome!
