I'm trying to improve my organization's project portfolio status reporting strategy, and determining which Atlassian tool/format would work best for our needs. Three requirements I'm considering:

  1. Ability to pull relevant metadata from epics
  2. Ability to display % of work complete based on epic story points
  3. Ability for project managers to layer in health status or other pertinent notes as text

Each of the tools I'm considering has at least one major drawback:

  • Confluence page w/ embedded Jira filter: no ability to type in notes side-by-side with Jira data without a paid plug-in; notes would have to be separately entered; also no out-of-the-box progress indicator
  • Confluence page w/ embedded Database: database doesn't automatically update as the Jira query (list of epics) updates; also no out-of-the-box progress indicator
  • Jira roadmap/plan: no ability to type in notes side-by-side with epics; possibly not as easily consumable of a visual for leadership in this use case (vs a simpler table)
  • Jira dashboard: limited in its ability to filter/manipulate the data without a paid plug-in; no ability to type in notes side-by-side with epics

One possible approach is to include all possible "health"/"notes" as custom fields in the epics and then pull them into other views. But aside from this, are there other tools/processes within the Atlassian suite that folks here use to overcome the above? Any shared perspectives welcome!
