Hi! We plan to use Confluence to create and manage procedures. Is there any functionality available for keyword searches or best practices to make it as easy to find the steps you need as possible?

@Tyanna Chandler At the beginning of each procedure, I use a Heading 3 paragraph of the format "To change your password" and give it a color to set if off for readers.

At the top of each page (by way of the template I use), I have 2 Table of Contents macros in a 2-panel layout.

  • The first has bold text above it (Sections on this page) and includes all Heading 1s and 2s. I don't use any bullets in this list.
  • The second has bold text above (Procedures on this page), uses a bullet character, and includes only Heading 3s. If you need to use the Heading 3 style for another section on the page for structure purposes, you can use some text in that heading to exclude it from this list.

This makes it easier to find the steps from the top of the page.

Hi @Tyanna Chandler ,

Confluence does provide a lot of free templates for selection.

Here is a guide on how to use the template: https://support.atlassian.com/confluence-cloud/docs/create-a-page-from-a-template/

Here is a SOP template: https://www.atlassian.com/software/confluence/templates/sop

Hi @Tyanna Chandler and welcome to the Community.

Well, you could for example format the pages to have the top part in 2 sections and one of the section has the page tree macro or something like that to make it easier to see other steps.

Or you could have the next step in that top section right hand column and previous step in the left top section. Something like that.

And structure your procedures pages in a way that you can take advantage of the Confluence macros, and thereby reduce your manual update / upkeep work :)

HTH,
KGM
