Permissions don't seem to flow down to child pages?

cheryl.twomey April 27, 2021

We've been reorganising our Confluence layout & I've noticed that permissions / restrictions on parent pages don't flow down to any child pages. This means I've got go & set restrictions for numerous child pages which is going to be pretty time consuming.

I've read the help pages on this & think I'm doing things correctly.
Does anyone know if it takes time for new permission/restrictions changes to become active?

Or has anyone else experienced this & can offer advice?
TIA! 😊

Hi @cheryl.twomey
Welcome to the Atlassian Community. smile

A child page inherits view restrictions from parent pages as detailed in Page Restrictions documentation.

However, edit restrictions are not inherited as described in CONFSERVER-5095.

The Page Information is a good place to check if restrictions are inherited from parent pages.

Let us know if that helps or if you still see problems with view restrictions.

Thanks Thiago, this is clearer now. And thanks for your patience with my terminology which I now realise wasn't very clear.

The View restrictions are working as they should, I was expecting that the edit permissions would work in the same way. Now I know that they don't, I can plan accordingly.

Thanks for responding so quickly, it's really helpful 🙂
