Not able to share any space with another user

Being a Site Admin, I am not able to share any confluence space with another user. I have tried the sharing feature to grant access to full space / a single page. But the other user cannot access either space or the single page.

Can the user access Confluence at all?

Note that the Share button on a page does not give the specified user permissions to access the page/space. It is just providing them with a link to it. You have to separately grant the user permissions to the space/page.
