Native archiving function in Confluence Cloud: how to set date, receive notifications etc.

Dear all,

We are just testing the native archiving function of Confluence Cloud and some questions came up:

  • How is it possible to receive a notification of pages not viewed or used for a certain period of time (like in the plugin "Better archiving for Confluence"?
  • How can I set an expiration date for Confluence pages?
  • How can I se an archiving date for Confluence pages?

If these functions are not yet in place, are you considering to implement them in the near future. If not, is there any plugin you can recommend for enhanced archiving in the cloud?

For us, it would also be important that you can search for archived pages in the search engine (and not just for archived spaces as it is right now) and also have the option to archive all sub-pages / children.

Thank you very much for your feedback.

@Sylvia Mader

There is not a notification/monitoring structure in place like in better archiving.  Confluence cloud does have analytics that allows you to how content is performing.  This does require a premium subscription.

There is no way to set an expiration and the date content was archived can easily be seen when looking at the archived page list or on the page information as the last changed by date.

I am not aware of the roadmap for this portion of the application since nothing is published online.  There are a number of feature requests that you can vote for or submit your own here to help improve the application!%3D%20Done%20and%20summary%20~%20%22archive%22

There are a couple of apps for archiving but you would have to test them out to see if they meet your needs

Hi Brant,

thank you for the information.

I do have another question, maybe you can help. With Premium Cloud, does Bulk archiving of pages means that all sub pages of a main page can be archived? Is this one of the options available?

Thank you in advance for your response.

@Sylvia Mader That is correct you will have to select them.  Per Atlassian - "Say you have a meeting notes section in your page tree with notes from the past three years. With bulk archive available in Confluence Cloud Premium, you can select all the meeting notes you no longer need and archive them all at once. From the bulk archive view, you can see the context of the page tree as well as when a page was last updated to help you decide if your pages are stale and ready to be filed away."

As we announced the good news earlier on the feature request for Better Content Archiving Cloud, preliminary work has started on Better Content Archiving for Confluence Cloud! This will be a dedicated Content Lifecycle Management app for teams looking to keep their content fresh, relevant and alert the right team members when action is needed.

All of you who are interested in the progress, please follow that feature request, as we will keep you posted on significant milestones there.

Join the Early Access Program

We also started organizing the Early Access Program and inviting participants.

If you would like to keep in close touch with the development process, share your use case, ask questions from the team directly and be the first who gets to use the app, then please reach out to me at

If you know other colleagues or departments of your company using Confluence Cloud or planning to migrate, feel free to inform them and extend the invitation to them as well!

Thanks for your continued patience and looking forward to talking to many of you as participants of the EAP!
