Migrating to another Server do i need to run the setup wizard aswell as the installer

Im moving our Confluence system from a Linux system with the embedded DB and moving to a Windows Server with a AWS RDS MySql DB.

Question is Ive ran the installer and shutdown the server without running the Wizard so the DB is empty

Do i run the installer then the wizard to setup the DB then shutdown and import my home folder change cfg.xml etc

Or can i just do i DB import somehow to create the DB structure

Hi @Rich Humphreys

Welcome to the Community!!

Take the XML Backup from your old confluence server and restore it to your new confluence Server

Please follow the guide here

https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/site-backup-and-restore-163578.html

Thanks,
Pramodh

Thanks for the reply Pramodh. So are you saying setup the new server fully and then restore the XML.
Or run the setup wizard and import the XML and copy over my home directory?

im following this guide currently https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/migrating-confluence-between-servers-184150.html

Either of those will suffice the requirement in restoring the server

To clarify once again, these are the steps @Rich Humphreys

  • Setup the server completely
  • Restore the XML backup
  • Stop the server
  • Copy the home directory content from old server to new one
  • Start the server
  • At this point your server data is completely replaced with the new one
  • Use the old user directory accounts password to login with credentials

Great stuff thanks all sorted now :)

Stupid question. What is considered the Confluence home directory in Linux?
