Migrating spaces - user emails question

Katherine Lord February 4, 2025

When migrating Confluence spaces (and Jira projects) from one instance into another existing instance - is it best to update the email address of the users in the source instance to avoid duplicates when exporting and importing?

HI @Katherine Lord ,

If you are migrating from one cloud instance to another cloud instance, I don't see how the user would be duplicated. All users in the cloud are unique to their e-mail which is tied to a unique atlassian account. So, when migrating spaces or projects, essentially you will be granting user access to the destination instance as well. Therefore, the user will have access to both site instances.

For example, abc@xyz.com will have access to source confluence and access to destination confluence.
