Linking a file path to the drive

Michael Atzmüller June 10, 2021

We use Confluence as an employee handbook. We want to link an Excel list on ourpage. If we do this with "Add file", the user always has to download the file. For this reason we are looking for a solution how we can link a drive path on a page. Just like a http-link to a website, we want a link to the specific folder / file on the drive.

@Michael Atzmüller you can accomplish this through the /link macro. You will need to set your browser to allow links to a local file system by adjusting the settings.

However, this link will only work for users that have that setting change on their browsers. If individual users control these settings, the experiences of your users will differ. If you manage browser settings in a centralized manner, then you can dictate the experience.

Thx for your answer. We dont know how to set this link macro. When we set a normal link like a website we have to use http://. What we should wirte for the "link macro"?

I apologize. I used to be able to use file:/// with the file path (which can be copied by holding SHIFT and right clicking on the file/folder) to reference the file to be called. Either this no longer works or my browser security (managed by internal IT) does not allow it.

This support article also may be the key:

Sorry I could not help more.
