Language switch for page without external translation (but manually translated)?

Christoph Pieper May 26, 2024

I want to give users the option to view the page in a previously selected language (a language selector button would be nice). For privacy & compliance reasons I do not want any external translation functionality (like DeepL).

I want to give the editors of the page the option to select maybe german and create a german version of the content not necessarily with exact the same content (like e.g. wikipedia does). Anyway, a side-by-side view would be nice.

I think it's similar to a page version selector but for languages.

Is there any plugin for that or a possibility to use that functionality?

Thanks in advance!

I can recommend Scroll Documents with Translation for Scroll Docs by K15t. I used their solution in the past and it works like a charm.

It supports XLIFFs and with that solution you also get stuff like proper docs versioning.

Ok thanks for the answer! I understand that I can create 2 pages maybe one for german and one for english and switch between them. But this also means that you alway have to different pages for one topic in your confluence space, right?

Is there any possibility to have just one page but different languages?

Hello @Christoph Pieper

Welcome to the community.

Yes, the Translations for Confluence app allows you to have different language versions on one page.

Kind regards,

Mattia

Hi @Christoph Pieper
Welcome to the Atlassian community!

There are a couple of apps on the store that can do what you need. One of them is our Lango app.

Lango offers several features that allow you to manage translations manually. You can create new translations from scratch as independent pages and use the link function to connect original content to its respective translations. This occurs within the Confluence instance without sending data to external translators.

The language switcher works whether you create translations automatically (using external providers like DeepL) or manually for compliance reasons, as in your case.
