Issue with numbering formatting after importing .docx with images

Joe Cuc January 20, 2017

This question is in reference to Atlassian Documentation: Importing a Word Document into Confluence

For some reason the numbering is okay after an import until it hits an image. After the image it resets back to 1. Then keeps counting down until it hits another image and resets again. Is there anyway to resolve this? On my document the numbering is formatted correctly.

Hi Joe,

Confluence interprets a break in the numbering as a cue to start a new numbered list.  You can't get Confluence to change this behaviour so your best manual option is probably to remove the images from the document, import the document, then add the images back in.

In general terms, to do a line break which doesn't break Confluence's numbering, do SHIFT+RETURN.  This will add a new un-numbered line in your list.  You can add as many of these lines as you want.  When you want to resume the numbering use RETURN, and it will give you a new numbered line that carries on from the last numbered line.  In your specific case you can use this to amend your imported pages if you'd rather do that than reimporting the document without the images.
