Confluence is much more intuitive for casual users than Jira - especially for stakeholders who are more accustomed to Sharepoint. I noticed recently that when Jira issues are embedded in a Confluence page, you can hover over the link to get a pop up with a preview option. Choosing his option allows you to see the Jira screen without leaving the Confluence page. This is fantastic and something I’ve wanted for years.
However, if you simply click on a jira link you are taken to a completely new jira page.
My question is this - is there a way to make a link click open the preview version of the jira issue vs navigating to Jira?
@Sean Blezard you can control the default behavior of some links in Confluence by following the instructions on this page.
The relevant section for you is below:
You can set your preferences on how links are displayed across Confluence, Atlas, Jira and soon for other Atlassian products. Your chosen link display option appears when you edit pages or comment on issues.
Go to link preferences from Confluence:
Select your avatar from the top-right menu, then go to Settings.
Under Settings, select Account preferences.
From the left-side menu, select Link preferences.
Set your default display for new links
You can choose how to display links you create:
From Link preferences, go to the Default display section.
Choose your preferred display option.
Links created by other users will appear depending on the display option they choose.
Remember to refresh active editor sessions after you update your preferences.
That's good to know, thanks. I'm not sure that's the same thing as I'm asking though. I mean the behaviour inside a Jira macro when you hover. It'd be good to click and get preview without having to hover first.

The answer given by Andy is not what I came here looking for either.
