Is there a way to make Confluence more lightweight and faster?

Hello,

We've been using Confluence Cloud for a while now. First we were using the Hosted server version of Confluence and moved to the Cloud because of multiple reasons.

Ever since we moved to the Cloud version we are experiencing problems with loading speeds which makes working with Confluence more of a painful experience instead of a smooth one.

When we load a Confluence page we see in de browser developer tools that a single page refresh does around 590 requests with 15MB of data transferred. We see alot of .js files being loaded. When we do a test with GTmetrix the performance of the site is dreadful (E). GTmetrix also suggests to avoid enormous network payloads.

Is there a way to disable certain things from being loaded so the pages load faster and smoother? For example for our customers we have a public space that only needs to show the pages and content. No need for comments and other apps or stuff being loaded.

Hi @Marco Mooij welcome to the community.  I would suggest opening a ticket with support (support.atlassian.com) and go over with them your concern to see if there are any performance improvements that can be made.  There was some work done in the past for performance, maybe that needs to be revisited.  That article is here: Confluence Cloud Perf Improvements 

I also see a few Jira issues reporting performance issues. You could vote and watch for them as well. CONFCLOUD-69740  CONFCLOUD-65939 are just two of them.

I created a ticket with support. Hopefully they can give some tips or tricks to prevent certain unnecessary things from being loaded. Its especially important for our customer that the load speed is fast. And of course for us as a team to make editing and documentation more enticing instead of the dreadful bloated experience we have now.

Hope someone from the community has already found some ways to disable certain things from being loaded.
