Is there a way to have a page tree for public pages?

Hey all,

I have a space thats public, when I use the direct links its all good, but this is designed to be an externally facing knowledge base meaning a page tree is needed, but as we are using public links the macro won't work.

Am I going to have to build this manually?

Thanks,

Toby

Hi @Toby Moore

Yes.

On the Free Confluence you have only one option - an app.

What I know that what works 100% is Scroll Viewport by K15t which does not rely on Confluence permission and can create a public documentation portal from Confluence content even from private spaces or Free Confluence.

Your site can look like this. It's my company's public doc site create from a private Confluence space using Viewport.

I discuss building a doc site from Confluence using Viewport (and other apps) in this Community article.

Disclaimer: I don't work for K15t, I'm just an app user.

(There's also Instant Websites for Confluence but I don't know if it works on Confluence Free).

Oh, I see. I saw the Free product plan and there are limits - no public spaces.

The easiest way, if you're on Standard and above, is to open space to anonymous access. Which is big no-no for me that's why I use Viewport.

(there are theme apps that require public access to work).

If you're OK with a public confluence space, then I'd recommend using the two space approach that I hint at in my article, because that will allow you to work in the Source space (which would be private) and only sync the content to the Target space (which would be public) when the content is finalized.

Hi @Toby Moore

If you want the page tree to be retained, you have to choose 'Anonymous access' over 'Public links' for sharing content with users who do not have access to Confluence or an Atlassian account.

These options are often confused, but here's a quick breakdown of the key differences:

This is the link to the extended documentation created by my team.

If you want a brand conform public facing documentation that can possibly hide other Confluence elements like page contributors, comments, and the page title, I am happy to present Spacecraft app to you.
