Is there a way to collect Analytics from YouTube links that are posted to my Confluence homepage?

Kevin August 9, 2024

I understand I am able to see Analytics through the "Analytics Cockpit", however, I'm only able to see page visits and blog visits? Am I able to view analytics for YouTube videos or article links on the page as well through the system or would I need to purchase a 3rd party application? Thank you for your time?

@Kevin Since you are on data center you can use Google Analytics if you want.  This would be an easy and free way to get information on the things you are talking about.

@Brant Schroeder ,

Thank you for letting me know! How would I go about using Google Analytics?

@Kevin There are a couple of ways to do this.

1. If you want it added to every single page.  You can add it to the custom HTML section found in the configuration.  To do this you will need to do the following:

  • Go to Confluence administration by clicking on the Cog in the upper right hand corner.
  • Under the Look and Feel section there will be custom HTML, click it
  • Then on the page click edit
  • Add the Google JavaScript snippet to At end of the HEAD section and hit save

2. If you want to add it to only some of your pages.

  • Create a new page in your space titled “Google Analytics” to hold the tracking code.
  • Using the wiki markup editor, add the following to that page:
    {html}
    javascript code copied from Google Analytics
    {html}
  • Then, at the bottom of each page that you want Analytics to track, use the include page macro to include the Analytics tracking code page, using the name of your Google Analytics page. Place the following code at the bottom of the content on the page. For example: add {include:Google Analytics} to the bottom of your page.

3. Yu can also create a custom macro and then users can add it to pages.
