Is it possible to link to an item on another database from a database?

Ed Waugh May 2, 2024

We are looking to use Confluence databases as a replacement for Monday.com. One of the features we use a lot is the ability to 'mirror' a column from another board. So we have a board with a list of devices and a board with a list of deployments and the device can be linked to the deployment in a bidirectional fashion with fields from each board viewable as required.

Is it possible to replicate this functionality using Confluence databases?

Thanks

Ed

Hey @Ed Waugh

I'd recommend you check out the Entry Link, Entry details and Entry backlink fields and see if you can rebuild your use case with them. They're the fields which you can use for linking entries between different databases.

I'm not sure if the bidirectional linking works the way you want it, but unidirectional it works quite well. Here's the documentation about the various field types.

Cheers,
Matthias.

PS: Fyi, @Sushant Verma, Confluence Databases used to be Orderly Databases (not Confluence SQL) by K15t before Atlassian acquired it.

Hi @Ed Waugh

Welcome to the community!

In Confluence, you can use the Confluence Database (formerly known as Confluence SQL) app to create database-like tables and link them to other Confluence pages or tables. While it may not provide the exact "mirror" functionality you described in Monday.com, you can achieve a similar outcome using Confluence databases and macros.

While the Confluence Database app doesn't provide real-time synchronization or automatic mirroring of data between tables, you can manually update the linked fields in Confluence to reflect changes made in other tables. By leveraging the macros and linking capabilities, you can create a similar bidirectional relationship between your devices and deployments.
