I am new and trying to sum table columns and table rows. How do I set up field calculations to sum?

I want to place simple Excel Calculations in my table Number Columns and Rows to Sum up and down, and across?  I do not see this in any documentation.  Help

Can table work tasks be set up as DEPENDENCIES with tasks within a table and across tables?  Help again

Hello Frank,

there are no native calculations functions in Confluence tables, so you need to look for a suitable app in Atlassian marketplace. And our Table Filter and Charts for Confluence app can be right what you need to make calculations.

With the help of our Table Filter macro you can use total columns and rows in the standard Atlassian tables. If you need more Excel-like view and functionality, please try our Table Spreadsheet macro.

I'm not sure if this is your case, but you can create a Gantt chart for your tasks and set dependencies between the tasks in it. Also, with the assistance of the Table Excerpt/Table Excerpt Include macros it is possible to merge similar tables from different pages in a report (dynamically changed when you change tables on the original pages) and display it on a summary page.

This is only a part of the many functions Table Filter and Charts provide, so the app is paid. However, Cloud version is available for free for companies with up to ten users.

Hi @Frank Crocitto ,

If you have used Excel before, how about Excel-like Tables for Confluence - Spreadsheet and Chart?
It has almost the same functionality as Excel.

And if you are interested in planning tasks using Gantt charts in Confluence, I think Gantt Chart Planner - Roadmap & Timeline - for Confluence is the best choice for you.

Hi @Frank Crocitto

In addition to what the others mentioned above, another app/approach that could help is Structure.

Structure lets you build any issue hierarchy you like and add any Jira field as a column, so that you can organize and view Jira projects the way you need in a spreadsheet-like view.

You can then easily sum up values in any column that contains numeric values, like Story Points and Estimates. All you need to do is check the "Sum over sub-items" checkbox and the values will be summed up at the Epic, Initiative, and Theme levels, as seen below:

If you need something more powerful than the built-in sum-up/roll-up feature, Structure also has a Formulas feature that lets you write Excel-like formulas, to do real-time calculations with your Jira data.

Disclaimer: I'm part of the Structure team, but I hope this helps in your solution-hunting!

Best,
Kathryn

Hi @Frank Crocitto

If you want complete Excel functionalities, you can use our Excellentable Spreadsheet for Confluence tool to get the complete functionality.

Regarding task dependencies, there is no straightforward way to do it in confluence. You might want to make the task list as Jira tickets and create the dependencies within Jira if that works for you.
