How to revert back to original page name after updating a page by importing a word doc?

Maria Villaflor September 4, 2019

Hello. I updated a page by importing a word document rather than updating the page inline via Confluence. I had chosen to replace the current page, but I did not realize that it will change / break the url; perhaps because I may have renamed the title.

Is it possible to point it back to the original page title?

PREVIOUS VERSION:
Name: ESI Specific - Adobe Campaign 101 - Enhanced Service Initiative - ConfluenceURL: https://confluence.capgroup.com/display/ESI/ESI+Specific+-+Adobe+Campaign+101

NEW VERSION:
Name: ESI-Specific-Adobe+Campaign-101 - Enhanced Service Initiative - ConfluenceNew URL: https://confluence.capgroup.com/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=206669632

If I do a page restore from its original version, does it change the url back to its original page?

Thanks!

Hi @Maria Villaflor

Both URLs should work actually. You can read more about URL formats in https://confluence.atlassian.com/confkb/the-differences-between-various-url-formats-for-a-confluence-page-278692715.html

After testing this I believe the problem is in "Export to Word" saving the file with pluses ("+") instead of spaces (" "), and then when importing back into Confluence the page gets renamed.

If that is the case and you see plus signs in the page title, a solution for you would be to edit the page in Confluence and change its title back to what it was before - probably just replacing all "+" with space. As long as the page title is same as it was before the import, the original pretty URL will start working again.
