How to customize Confluence page layout/view

Vlado April 30, 2020

Hello,

As first question I would like to customize Confluence page layout/view as shown in attached picture "Internet page of KB_2020apr29.png" as follows:

- delete / hide "Spaces", "Space tools",..,

- edit page footer - print our company logo, etc.

Is this customization possible as one time job; I would not like to do this customization every time we update the Confluence with new version.

Are there any alternative options or solutions?

Second question: how can be Confluence Favicon changed with different one?

Thank you in advance.

Best regards,

Vlado

@Vlado

You could use one of these apps to fully control the way Confluence looks:

Hello @Matt Reiner _K15t_

thank you for the answer.

With Scroll Viewport I can customize Confluence look once and this customized look stays also after Confluence's updates?

Best regards,

@Vlado

Yes, your customized view, which is available at whatever customer URL you set, is unaffected by updates.

Here's a look at the Help Center Theme, which most teams are using today: https://www.k15t.com/rock-the-docs/publishing/create-a-help-center-with-scroll-viewport

@Vlado That's one of the main differences between Scroll Viewport and other theming apps:

Scroll Viewport allows you to customize the look and feel of your content, without "touching" the Confluence look and feel. That way it's more stable with updates, and your authors don't need to learn a new UI after Scroll Viewport is activated.

Acc to your screenshot I assume this is a Knowledge Base article view, so the content should be available for a public audience (without the need to access Confluence functionality)? If that's the case, you should definitely have a look at the Help Center Theme my colleague Matt linked above.

If there are any questions or you want to discuss your use case more privately, please do not hesitate to reach out to us via support@k15t.com.

Cheers,
Nils

Hi @Vlado,

I think @Bibek Behera is right. You won't get far with Vanilla Confluence options. But if you're open to using apps from the Marketplace, there's solutions to what you want:

For hiding parts of the UI I can recommend you our app HideElements for Confluence. With it you can hide things globally, per space or per page. This is what the configuration screen looks like:

You can just click on the elements in the page preview screen that you want to hide! With HideElements you can also conditionally override settings, so you can do things like hide comments globally, but unhide them again in certain spaces. (And within these spaces you could hide comments again on certain pages!)

For customizing the Footer I can recommend you Lively Theme for Confluence. It allows you to assign a Confluence page to become your footer, so you can edit your footer just like you would any other page.

Hope this helps!

Hi @Vlado,

Sure! With just about every theming app out there your changes should stay set when updating Confluence. If your settings are deleted after a Confluence upgrade that likely means something went wrong with the upgrade itself (and other data / settings are probably missing too).

Cheers,
Sven

Hello @Bibek Behera

thank you for the answer.

I too found this customization. As you already stated, it is not one time job: must be repeated with every Confluence update.

Best regards,

Vlado
