How to create a new template based on standard Confluence templates

Timothy Baynes August 23, 2019

We would like to create our own content templates in Confluence. We prefer to base them on the standard Confluence templates, if possible. I would like to either:

- Edit a standard template (e.g. Product Requirements) and copy it/save it with our own name, like "MyCompany Product Requirements"

- Alternatively, we would create our own custom template, but ideally we start with a Confluence template and modify it.

Are either of these paths possible?

Thank you. I don't think this addresses the requirement. If we edit the standard templates, it would be good to know that they have been edited and also to identify them as ours.

Hi Timothy,

You can edit existing Confluence templates either at the Space or Global level. Check out the Edit templates section of Blueprints and User Created Templates

One thing to keep in mind:

Unlike user created templates, you can't change the name of blueprint templates, only their content. If you decide you don't like the edits you've made to a blueprint template, you can select Reset to default (which only appears for edited blueprints) from beside that template to return it to its original state.

Hope this helps -- good luck!

Sharon
