For Confluence, the default ordered lists are numbered as follows:
1. First step
a. sub step
i. sub sub step
I would like the steps to be all numeric as follows:
1.0 First step
1.1 sub step
1.1.1 sub sub step
Does anyone know how to define the ordered lists?
@Ellyn Berner unfortunately as @Kristian Klima mentioned you have to pay for an app to get more advanced features.
The good new is there are a few options on the marketplace, we make one of them. They are all fairly similar feature wise, less so UI and cost wise. Always savvy to evaluate 2-3.
Here is an Atlassian Marketplace search results page.
@Shawn Doyle - ReleaseTEAM is right, it's not possible unless you find an app that does that.
For example, there's an app that does numbered headings by Kolekti so if you look at apps that do macros, you may strike luck.
As a seasoned writer, though, Confluence way seems to be in line with 'industry standard' for ordered lists - it's easier to read and conveys the structure and hierarchy better, basically, visual form aiding the meaning.
Your method is typical for headings, mostly in the legal realm, or compliance documentation for easy referral in printed formats. The last time I saw that in a proper tech doc was in mainframe tech doc actually hosted on mainframe.

There are only two types of ordered lists available in the cloud version. There doesn't seem to be a way to customize them.
There may be an addon that can help.
