How do I collaborate on a page and only publish my edits?

This is a frequent problem; another team member and I are editing a Confluence page at the same time. When I click 'Update' both the edits I have made and the edits my colleague is still making are committed to the page history. 

I read a Confluence support article that suggested only my edits would publish, is that still possible?

No, there's no way to do this, the publish function publishes what you've all been working on together as it is now.
